The story so far...
Suburbia
has been rocking since the autumn of 2002. The band was formed by singer/guitarist
Magnus Sörensen and drummer Peter Lärk, as a fun project. Before they formed
Suburbia, they both played in the coverband "Samuel Twice". Playing covers was
fun at the begining. I mean, come on, move on, grow up, write your own songs...
and so we did. Hell yeah!
Musical references comes mostly from the US music scene, like bands such as
Butch Walker, SR-71, Cheap Trick, Rick Springfield, Foo Fighters and so on.
Powerpop/alternative rock would be a pretty nice word for the genre.
In 2003 bass player Anders Persson joined up and various recording sessions began.
A record company contacted the band and a meeting was set up to be held in their
Stockholm office. After getting all the info from the company, the decision of a
contract was easy. No contract, Suburbia told them "No way"!
In 2004 the CD Theres Two Sides Of Everything was recorded and released
by the band. Mainly just a bunch of songs recorded for fun, but the result was
better than predicted so it had to be an independent release.
Critics gave the album pretty good reviews. Also, lead-guitarist Ulrik Hedin
(who also appeard in Samuel Twice) joined the band that year, and the band felt
really complete.
In february, 2005, the band made their first official live performance at Club
Roccad, in Vänersborg, Sweden. Followed by 3 more gigs at Rocced during a few
months that spring. Sububria won the first price in their Battle Of The Band´s
like competition.
The
band's success in the rock band competition spread to lots of people and
resulted in radio shows and several gigs such as playing on the mainstage at the
Fallens Dagar Festival and at Indiepop club "Club Feber".
Suburbia song Make Me Feel Alive was one of the most requested songs on
swedish radio P4 during the summer of 2005.
In february 2006 the bands second full-lenght CD, Songs For A Perfect Mixtape
was released. This time with much stronger songs and a kick-ass production. So
far all the critics has loved the CD and more will as soon as they´ll get in
their hands!
The summer of 2006 the band played as opening acts for MillenColin, Hellacopters
and Backyard Babies and also did a great gig at legendary Sticky Fingers in
Gothenburg.
Suburbia song "Easier To Dream" was put in second place in the international
songwriting competition "Song Of The Year" hosted by music channel "VH1". The
jury consisted of Norah Jones, Tim Palmer (producer of U2 & HIM) & Sheila E (producer
of Prince). In the fall began the pre-production of the new album, which
eventually would take over a year to complete.
After a really cool gig at No1. Rock Club in February 2007, Suburbia went on a
small break, pretty much so everyone could catch up with their lives. Some songs
had been recorded but uncompleted, so they would just be laying there. After the break Magnus had been
working on more new songs for the next album, sadly not everyone had the time to
stick around to finish them. Peter and Anders left the band due to family issues,
though Anders remained in the band to help out with gigs and recording sessions,
while Peter went up in smoke and no one has seen him since.
Thank God bad times didnt last too long. After an extensive search, Daniel
"Helge" Tibell (drums) joined the band just before the summer, and Simon Lundin
(bass) joined a few months later. After a few months of hard work trying to get
it all together with new and old songs the bands was finaly back on their feets
again.
In the summer of 2008 the band released their new EP entitled "Crash". 5 new
Suburbia songs and as bonus tracks, the whole "Radio P4 Session" recorded live
in february the same year. On july 17th the band celebrated the EP-release with
a live-gig at the Fallens Dagar festival in Trollhättan.
At the moment the band is working on new songs for an upcoming EP to be released
sometime during the spring/summer of 2009.
The story continues
Peace out!
